Summer can be quite a depressing season. When I was in school, I used to feel a sense of dread whenever the yearly break would come around. I enjoyed seeing my friends everyday, attending my favorite classes, and having a set routine for the day. Being neurodivergent, I felt the difference in routine immensely, and I found the lack of steady social interactions to be unnerving. As an adult, I now view summer as a slower, more reflective time. I've since learned how to appreciate the peace it brings by channeling my feelings onto other hobbies like writing, watching movies (I'm onto about five movies a week these days), and reading books.
I've put together a small collection of books that I think capture the loneliness, nostalgia, and feelings of grief that summer can bring out. Sometimes all you need to lift your spirits is a good comic and a good cry.
